Welcome to Sweden's most secretive walking adventure and one of Sweden's most protected places
This is our oldest and still one of our most requested experiences.
We are in the area around the former top secret military complex in Ursvik — a place that during the Cold War was so sensitive that it was missing from many maps.
Here activities connected with the Militärromområde Öst (Milo Ö) and FOA were conducted, at a time when Sweden was quietly preparing for a war that never came.
WHAT DO YOU GET TO EXPERIENCE?
-
What was hiding in the now-reactivated rock facilities in the area?
-
What did the outside world really know about the business here?
-
What did the ** “Russians” ** know about the area?
-
How far did Sweden's nuclear program actually go?
-
And what is meant by the so-called
** “radioactive the pigs”? **
SETUP -- TWO PARTS
This experience consists of two distinct parts:
🔹 The Walking tour (about 60 minutes)
We walk a short loop in the area (about 1 km, level ground) where the business was once conducted.
Here we put the location in context and show how the area was used in practice — in a place where most of the activity was hidden underground.
🔹 Optional briefing & artefacts (about 1.5—2 hours)
After the walk, we gather for an in-depth review.
Here we go further into:
-
FOA's activities and research projects
-
Sweden's military preparations during the Cold War
-
how intelligence work actually works in practice
We are also concerned with the development of materials and solutions with both military and civilian significance, including:
-
early applications that came to form the basis of what is used today in JAS 39 Gripen
-
the so-called “Swedish Additive”, a mysterious substance that “everyone” uses
-
solutions that later received civil expressions -- e.g. “the net brow”, with roots in military function
We also showcase authentic items linked to intelligence and military history, including:
-
spy cameras such as MINOX but also cameras hidden in ladies' bags and cigarette cases from the 1950s
-
encryption equipment with unique background
-
satellite phone from modern military use in Afghanistan
-
as well as other objects related to Swedish and foreign intelligence gathering (espionage)
THIS IS NOT A DRAMATIZED EXPERIENCE
What we tell you is based on:
-
documented events
-
real activities
-
historical material
The focus is on providing an in-depth and accurate picture of Sweden's role during the Cold War -- including things that are rarely discussed openly.

Reco.seSwedish Spy Yours and Swedish Spy Museum Projekt is a partially non-profit public education project about imparting knowledge about Sweden's very exciting history as well as creating an intelligence history museum in Sweden, a” Swedish Spy Museum”. Our subsidiary is Swedish Spy Tours which specializes in city walks and other events.
Our insider guides take you through stories of spies, agents and secret and covert activities in Sweden throughout history, where we put these in their historical context
Until our project with a physical museum can be realized, we organize lectures and, on the other hand, during the summer months, various “Spion” hikes.
Our spy tours take place in historically interesting areas of intelligence, currently only within Stockholm County, but other hikes may come later.
The walks vary in length but usually last between 2½ to 3½ hours depending on the extent of the hike and the guest's involvement. For more specific information, click the book button under our respective events
Of course, both customized hikes and lectures are offered. For more information, please contact Johan by email: [johan@swedishspymuseum.se](mailto: johan@swedishspymuseum.se) or by phone: 073-730 94 99
