Join the author of Annettes lista for a walk through the Stockholm revealed in Karin Lannby’s secret reports. On this approximately 90-minute tour of Östermalm, you will get to know the people behind the reports and see the documents on which the stories are based.

The actress who reported on wartime Stockholm

Karin Lannby moved between Stockholm’s cultural scene and the social circles surrounding the foreign legations. She spoke several languages fluently, and her contacts gave her access to conversations and information of considerable interest to the Swedish intelligence service.

Writing under the codename Annette, she produced 570 wartime intelligence reports that survive today. A name, a telephone call or a reference to a meeting could be the starting point for a much larger story.

This tour focuses on 1943, when people connected to several of the wartime intelligence services moved through the same few blocks of Östermalm. With Johan as your guide, you will trace the stories in his book to the addresses mentioned in the reports.

What lay hidden behind an ordinary Stockholm address?

How could an errand to collect cigarettes give Karin an insight into the activities of the German military attaché? And why was it worth recording exactly where the German officers usually had lunch?

Further along Skeppargatan, we encounter Iwanoff, a Polish intelligence officer who operated under Japanese protection. People from different backgrounds visited his home, with very different ideas about whom he really represented. Among them were Margit Sachs, who worked for a trading company, and the milliner Irma Folkenfock. Their connections with the same man had very different consequences.

Johan Öhgren leads the tour himself and explains how Annettes lista took shape through his research into Karin’s reports and archival records relating to other people.

Along the way, he shows historical photographs and copies of original documents. When Karin’s information is compared with police surveillance reports, new connections emerge and the people behind the recorded names come into focus.

You will also hear stories that never made it into the book. The group is limited to 25 participants, with time for questions about both the history and the research behind it.

We walk at a relaxed pace via Östermalmstorg and Linnégatan, then head south along Skeppargatan. The entire tour takes place outdoors. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
